Predictors of acute admission of more than 48 hours duration

چکیده
Background When a patient is admitted to an Emergency Department (ED) in the Region of Southern Denmark, estimation is required whether the patient is expected to remain hospitalized for more or less than 48 hours. If the length of stay (LOS) is expected to be less than 48 hours, the patient stays in the ED until discharge. If LOS is expected to exceed 48 hours, the patient is transferred to the relevant department. The aim of this study was to investigate if information available at admission could be used as predictors of LOS, and to determine which group of staff (nurses, junior physicians or senior physicians) was best able to estimate the correct LOS.

Background and purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and presence of a relationship between predictors of body mass index (BMI) or C-reactive protein (CRP) and duration of mechanical ventilation, in trauma patients who were admitted to the intensive care unite (ICU). Furthermore, we compared their prognostic significance, with known indicators such as, the Sequential O...
متن کاملPredictors of acute decompensation after admission in ED patients with sepsis.
PURPOSES The aim of the study was to identify predictors of acute decompensation within 48 hours of admission among infected emergency department (ED) patients admitted to a regular nursing floor. PROCEDURES This used a case control study of infected ED patients admitted to a regular nursing floor and who received a discharge diagnosis of sepsis. A multivariate logistic regression model was c...

متن کاملClinical Significance of P Wave Dispersion in Prediction of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction
Background: P wave dispersion (PWD) is defined as the difference between the maximum P wave duration (Pmax) and the minimum P wave duration (Pmin) in 12-leads of the surface electrocardiography. The aim of this study was to evaluate the values of PWD during atrial fibrillation (AF) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: We prospectively evaluated atrial rhythms of 350 patients (251 m...
